Overall Curriculum Expectations

Science is the study of the natural and physical world, aiming to describe and explain its phenomena. At Atlas Learning Zone, we believe that science education is essential to help students make connections between skills, concepts, and the practical applications of science and technology, and to learn about life systems, matter and energy, structures and mechanisms, and Earth and space systems. Our science curriculum enables students to develop important scientific literacy and technological skills that will prepare them to thrive in today’s rapidly changing world, future professional and personal lives, and to become active problem solvers in their communities. As students engage in STEM education, they develop transferable skills that they need to meet the demands of today’s global economy and society, and to become scientifically and technologically literate citizens.

The science and technology curriculum at Atlas Learning Zone is divided into five strands:

  • STEM Skills and Connections
  • Life Systems: Interactions in the Environment
  • Matter and Energy: Pure Substances and Mixtures
  • Structures and Mechanisms: Form, Function, and Design of Structures
  • Earth and Space Systems: Heat in the Environment
