Curriculum

Overall Curriculum Expectations

Curriculum Overview
In grade 6 math, students are encouraged to build a positive identity as a math learner and develop resilience by applying social-emotional learning (SEL) skills to support their use of the mathematical processes. These skills can also help students thrive and learn in connection with the expectations in the other five strands of the mathematics curriculum.

Students will learn how to cope with stress and manage complex challenges by breaking tasks down into smaller portions, making a plan, and taking it one step at a time. The mathematics curriculum is divided into six strands:

  • Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Skills in Mathematics and the Mathematical Processes
  • Number
  • Algebra
  • Data
  • Spatial Sense
  • Financial Literacy
