Curriculum

Overall Curriculum Expectations

In this grade, students will develop a positive identity as a math learner, nurture their well-being and learning ability, build resilience, and flourish by applying various social-emotional learning skills to support their use of the mathematical processes and their learning in connection with the expectations in the other five strands of the mathematics curriculum.

Students will learn to recognize and manage different emotions they may experience, such as pride, confusion, fear, and excitement. For instance, in algebra, they’ll create and execute code that represents a mathematical situation. Multiplication will be introduced using rows and columns, and students will be expected to know x 2, x 5, and x 10.

The mathematics curriculum’s expectations are grouped into six distinct but interconnected strands:

  • Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) Skills in Mathematics and the Mathematical Processes
  • Number
  • Algebra
  • Data
  • Spatial Sense
  • Financial Literacy
