Overall Curriculum Expectations

For grade 4, Atlas Learning Zone builds on the knowledge and skills students have developed in previous years, with a focus on physical and health literacy. Our curriculum emphasizes building students’ understanding of themselves in relation to others, and helps them develop an understanding of the factors that contribute to their physical and mental health, with a particular emphasis on the choices and decisions connected to their personal health. Students will have frequent opportunities to question, integrate, analyze, and apply information.

In addition, our curriculum helps learners continue to develop their locomotor and fine motor skills, and improve the quality of movement by examining how to relate these concepts and principles to their movement skills. This also fosters the development of their sense of self and identity as competent movers. The expectations for health and physical education are organized into four distinct but related strands:
