Overall Curriculum Expectations

The Grade 3 health and physical education program aims to provide students with the foundational knowledge and skills to support their mental health and well-being, develop physical and health literacy, and acquire the commitment and capacity to lead healthy, active lives. Students learn to make healthy active living a part of everyday life through participation in health and physical education in the classroom, gymnasium, outdoors, in schoolyards and school gardens, and in the community.

The expectations for health and physical education in Grade 3 are grouped into four strands that are distinct but related:

  • Social-Emotional Learning Skills
  • Active Living
  • Movement Competence: Skills, Concepts, and Strategies
  • Healthy Living
